Join the New Hampshire Women's Bar Association for a private historic walking tour in Portsmouth focusing on women leaders.

There is a limit of 15 participants, so sign up as soon as you can! NHWBA members, potential members, friends, and family are all welcome.

    More information about the tour:

Learn about the many women who undertook non-traditional roles to become leaders in commerce, the arts, and on the seas. The walking tour will last approximately 75 minutes.

This tour is through Discover Portsmouth, which is operated by the Portsmouth Historical Society. You can read more about the tour here and check out this Seacoast Online article about the tour.

More information about the tour guide:

Lauren Gianino is a native New Englander who has lived in the Seacoast region since 1982. From her first visit as a child to a historical museum she was intrigued by the people and events that shaped our nation’s history. She loves to connect with visitors from all over the world to tell Portsmouth’s most fascinating stories with enthusiasm and a bit of humor. As a retired educator she finds guiding to be a natural fit for her “second career”. When not guiding tours for Discover Portsmouth and the Moffatt-Ladd House, she is a docent at the John Paul Jones House. Lauren is a Music Hall volunteer and enjoys the lively arts scene in the city. She loves spending time outdoors, and of course, traveling to other historic sites and being a tourist!

We will be meeting over dinner (pay your own way) at Chuck’s BARbershop in Concord on Tuesday, August 20th at 5:30pm to discuss Brown White Black: An American Family at the Intersection of Race, Gender, Sexuality, and Religion by Nishta J. Mehra.

This book is a fast read that is a compilation of short essays. The book is described by the publisher as “a portrait of Nishta Mehra’s family: her wife, who is white; her adopted child, Shiv, who is black; and their experiences dealing with America's rigid ideas of race, gender, and sexuality."

Please RSVP to Caroline Leonard if you are interested.

Our 22nd Annual Fall Reception will include the presentation of the 2019 Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award. The Ricker Award is presented annually to an outstanding woman lawyer in New Hampshire who has achieved professional excellence and paved the way to success for other women lawyers, advanced opportunities for women in the profession, and/or performed exemplary public service on behalf of women.

Join us for a night of recognition of the achievements of our award recipient and an opportunity to network with fellow attorneys and judges from across the state.

At the reception, we will also present the 2019 Winnie McLaughlin Scholarship to a very deserving law student at UNH School of Law. A 50/50 raffle will be held to support the Winnie McLaughlin Scholarship Fund.

Space is limited and tickets will be required for this event. Tickets are free to NHWBA members of all membership levels, including honorary members. For non-members, there is a suggested donation of $20.
