Public Service

Our members volunteer in various public service initiatives. Here are some examples of our public service work:

  • Creating the Women to Women Project, which helps unites New Hampshire licensed attorneys with sentenced inmates of the New Hampshire State Prison for Women to provide them with legal information. For this work, NHWBA won an honorable mention Public Service Award from the National Conference of Women Bar Associations in 2018.
  • Holding professional clothing drives to benefit Dress for Success and other local charities
  • Organizing pro bono marathons, calling attorneys throughout the state to assist with the backlog of cases
  • Sponsoring a golf tournament to raise money for the New Hampshire Bar Association's Pro Bono Program
  • Supporting the annual silent auction in connection with the University of New Hampshire School of Law to provide funds for law students to work at public interest law jobs during the summer
  • Raising money and collecting supplies for local organizations, such as the New Hampshire Food Bank and the YWCA
  • Donating to the New Hampshire Commission on the Status of Women to aid in the publishing of the latest edition of its legal handbook for women
  • Volunteering for local non-profits including Operation Care for Our Troops, and New Horizons.
  • Creating the program "Overcoming Cancer's Legal Challenges", which was a joint project between the NHWBA and the Elliot Regional Cancer Center to provide breast cancer survivors with information about their legal rights and to answer questions pertaining to employment issues, insurance and financial issues, and family law issues. The NHWBA received the NCWBA's 2014 Public Service Award for this program.
