A Path to a More Diverse Bar - Continuing the Conversation

  • Thursday, February 15, 2024
  • 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Nixon Peabody, 900 Elm St #1400, Manchester, NH 03101

In February 2022, the New Hampshire Bar Foundation Diversity Survey results were released and a number of recommended action items and next steps were announced (you can find those materials through the following link: https://www.nhbar.org/nh-bar-foundation/diversity-and-inclusion-survey

We are asking you to join us, two years later, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, as we reflect on what we have accomplished and what still needs to be done. This event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 pm and will feature leaders and stakeholders in the judiciary, academia, private firms, and the public sector, who will engage the audience in a lively and active discussion about diversity in the New Hampshire legal community.

The event will begin with light refreshments and networking, before we hear from our speakers about the ongoing efforts since the survey results were released. The speakers for the evening will include: Chief Justice Gordon MacDonald of the NH Supreme Court; Courtney Herz, the new Chair of the NH Bar Association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Steering Committee and a Shareholder at Sheehan Phinney; and S. Amy Spencer, Chair of the Criminal Practice Section and Counsel at Nixon Peabody, who will introduce the speaker for the firm. Additional speakers will be listed as they are confirmed.

We will then transition to a structured group discussion about how we, as a Bar, as individuals, and in our own communities, can foster diversity through improvements in recruiting, retention, and workplace culture, among other topics. We intend to utilize new technologies to engage attendees and identify novel issues - this is one event where you are asked, and even encouraged, to have your cell phone out. We will share more information about this approach at the event!

The event will take place at Nixon Peabody, 900 Elm St #1400, Manchester, NH 03101. Registration is required and space is limited. Register today through the NH Bar Association: https://member.nhbar.org/calendar/register/MjYzOA==
