Embodied Leadership: Why How You Lead Matters as Much as What You Do

Most leadership development in the legal profession focuses on skills, strategies, and execution. Yet under pressure, leadership effectiveness is often determined less by what a leader does and more by how she shows up.

This session introduces Embodied Leadership -  a practical framework for understanding how presence, self-regulation, and internal alignment shape judgment, communication, and influence. Attendees will explore the distinction between management and leadership, learn five core dimensions of embodied leadership, and walk away with concrete ways to lead with greater authority, clarity, and sustainability in high-stakes legal environments.

    Speaker Bio
Vanessa Shaw is a business strategist, speaker, and the founder of The Business Growth Academy, where she works with women-owned law firms to build profitable, sustainable practices without burnout.

With an international background spanning the USA, UK, and Europe, Vanessa brings a global perspective to leadership and performance. Her early work included coaching and consulting for organizations such as the United Nations, World Economic Forum, KPMG, Oracle, and the international law firm Cameron McKenna (CMS), where she pioneered the firm’s first cross-border virtual coaching program for attorneys across 10 countries.

Today, Vanessa is known for helping women attorneys strengthen decision-making, leadership presence, and firm economics so they can lead with confidence and intention. Her work focuses on moving firm owners from high-performing operators to effective, sustainable leaders.
